Malayalam Movie Salt N Pepper Review
This article is a review of the film Salt & Pepper running in the theaters. The film Salt & Pepper is a movie mainly relating to food. The actors, music and the story are all related with food and food items. There are several mouth watering scenes in the movies. It is film worth seeing.
Salt N Pepper Story
As the name indicates it is about food and connection with food. It is a subject of appealing to everybody's stomach and heart. As if to justify the title of the film, it starts with a lot of food items in various colours and verities. All the characters of the film are connected through food in some way. The story revolves around an archeologist, Kalidasan (played by Lal) who loves cooking food. Similarly another character Maya a dubbing artist (Swetha Menon) also loves cooking.
Maya is a sentimental girl who feels her mother's presence and some of her famous dishes like kutti dosa (small dosa) at all the time she cooks. Once when she thinks about her mother's kutti dosa, she feels like having dosa and call to a food joint. But the call goes to wrong number lands up at the place of Kalidasan the archeologist. This accident contact changes the lives of Kalidasan and Maya.
All the characters come to the screen with in connection with some food incident either making food or enjoying a dish etc. One is relishing a tamarind item another a cake or some enjoying banana fritters etc etc. each character is associated with another through a food likings. For example the heroine is enjoying a common item banana fritters with her roommate, her house owner who is a beautician and her clients. The hero and his friend's friendship is through the 'unniappam'. Some of the locations show familiar areas of Calicut. Some of the hotels of Kozhikode can be seen in the film. There are some comic movements when the hero's car passes through pot holes and the car stereo playing music apt to the occasion. The picture is a combination of music and food.
Performances of Artists
The lead roles players Lal and Swetha Menon and other supporting characters all do justice to their roles. The role of Lal's servant by Babu Raj is good. Asif Ali as Lal's nephew and Mythili as Swetha Menon's roommate is good.
Asif Ali plays the role of Lal's nephew who comes to stay with him while searching for a job. Mythili plays the role of Swetha Menon's roommate who falls in love with Asif Ali.
BijiBal is one of the new wave music directors wowing his listeners these days with his music and his offering in Salt and Pepper does not disappoint. The Avial Band also comes up with a catchy number in this movie.
There are some characters whose roles are not clear in the film. Of course in any film there will be such instances as the film has to cater to the tastes of all types of audiences. There is good song in the end. On the whole the film like someone going to a restaurant with several delicious and mouth watering items in menu and after going through the same and have an above average lunch and a desert of fruit salad with all tasty fruit pieces.
The director of Salt and pepper Mr Ashiq Abu has tried new kind of film from an ordinary subject. The music of Salt & Pepper by Biji Bal is good. There is one music by a new music band 'Avial" which is pleasing.
