Keralitis celebrates Durgashtami, Mahanavami and Vijayadasami on 4th to 6th October 2011


In Kerala October4th, 5th and 6th day is Durgashtami, Mahanavami and Vijayadasami respectively. Keralitis are celebrating Mahanavami and Vijayadasami to appeasing their divine mother Devi andis the last three days of nine days Navarathri festival. Navarathri festival is the favorite festival of India.

Navarathri is the festival of India but the Keralitis celebrating the last three days of the nine day Navarathi festival as Durgashtami, Mahanavami and Vijayadasami. During these days all temples in kerala conducting special poojas for Durga, Saraswathi and Kali, divine mothers in Hinduism, On Durgashtami day all temples in Kerala performing Ayuda Pooja (working tools kept for pooja), Vehicle pooja, and at the evening Durgashtami day all books and utensils kept for pooja. The pooja continues the next two days Mahanavami and Vijayadasami too.

On Vijayadasami day most of the temples in Kerala facilitating Vidyarambham for kids (Ezhuthiniruthu). The devotees believed that the day in which he or she if starts writing the first letter he or she can expect better education in their life. For this ceremony the children are sitting on a traditional lamp and a religious teacher writing the word "Hari shree" on kid's tongue with a golden ring and the kids writing the word" Hari shree Ganapathaye Namaha" on sand or bed of raw rice with the help of religious teacher. The most famous temples in Kerala celebrating this days as grand festival and arranging all facilities for these ceremony, they are Mookambika Temple of Vadakkan Paravur, Panachikkada Saraswathi temple in Kottayam, Thiruvullakkavu in Thrissu. The Vidyarambham is also conducted in many other temples along the Kerala.
