Government Medical College Cochin– A dream project in Cochin under planning

The Government Medical collage in Cochin is a dream project of Cochitis, if the plan is implemented it will be a big credit of Ernakulam district. It is very essential for the Ernakulam city, a fast growing city as a metro city. The project is planning to develop with Ernakulam General Hospital, for these project wanted only 2.5 acre land for construction, if the land is arranging associate with general hospital it very easy for the implementation of the project. For these purpose needs the Cochin Corporation's consideration. The Cochin Corporation building is situated attached to the Ernakulam General Hospital buildings.The corporation building is very aged and the present building is not enough for the corporation purposes. The project of new Cochin corporation office building has planned to start the construction in Marine Drive with extra facilities but the project is stopped in a halfway. If the new corporation office building in Marine Drive is completed it is easy to handover the old building to General hospital for implementing Medical Collage.

In Ernakulam already has a Medical Collage in Kalamassery but this is not include in the category of Government Medical Collage. In Cochin we have required a Government Medical Collage like all other major cities in Kerala which have Gov Medical Collages. Minister K.V. Thomas, district collector, Mayer and NRHM officials were already discussed about the implementation of Government Medical Collage in Cochin. The Ernakulam General Hospital is the prime general hospital in Ernakulam and is highest in its service and facilities. The Ernakulam hospital is situated at the centre of Ernakulam city it is very helpful for the implementation of Medical collage associated with general hospital.

According to the latest information the government has a clear grasp about the financial sources of this project; the land acquisition is only the major problem to the implantation of this Medical Collage in Cochin. Now the General hospital and its associated buildings are situated in about 7.5 acre land, it will need 2.5 acres of land additional for the implementation of this Medical collage. Take the land of Cochin Corporation Office building is the only remedy for this.
