Revathi Pattathanam 2011 begins on 8th November

'Revathi Pattathanam', the famous assembly of scholars in South India with debates and cultural programmes, of 2011 will be kicked off on 8th November at Tali Mahadeva Temple, Kozhikkode. A large group of scholars are expected to take part in the prestigious historic event, as said by the Pattathanam Samithy Chairman VU Eradi and Pattathanam Secretary P K Krishnanunni Raja.

The Revathi Pattathanam is organised every year to commemorate the annual assembly of scholars during the Zamorins regime. The festival was started in early 14th century. The Pattathanam was a famous event during the medieval period and had a huge participation. The main event in the festival is none other than the heated debates between the scholars regarding various subjects like Tarkka, Mimamsa etc. This time too, it is supposed to witness many intense debates and discussions regarding various subjects. After the event that lasts about a week, the winners will be declared. The winner would be presented with traditional 'panakkizhi' (purse of money) and the prestigious title named 'Bhattar' by the head of the Zamorin family.

The celebrations will commence at 9 in the morning at Tali Mahadeva temple when a lighted lamp is brought to Guruvayurappan Hall, the venue at the nearby Zamorin's Higher Secondary school, accompanied by various customs.

The event will be inaugurated by the Panchayath and Social Welfare Minister of the state M K Muneer in the function at Zamorin's Higher Seconday School auditorium. The release of souvenir will be done by senior Congress party leader M K Raghavan. As a part of the function, a few awards will be presented. The 'Krishnageethi' award and best 'Temple Artist' award, instituted by the Pattathanam Samithy, will be presented to famous poetess Vijayalakshmi and singer M P Mohanan. The Zamorin Sri Manavedan will preside over the whole event. The celebrations will come to end with a Thiruvathira Kali and a Krishnanattam performance based on the portion 'Rasakreeda.'
