Sharon Mathai sparks in ‘the voice’ with ‘rumor has it’


Sharon Mathai enters round 24 of NBC’s reality talent show ‘The Voice’ season 2 singing ‘Rumour Has It’ by Adele in her blind audition of the contest. Sharon Mathai’s parent who hail from Kerala see this as a proud moment as the girl decided to fuse her dreams with music. ‘The Voice’ is a much popular TV show which is being judged by popular actress and music artist Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine, Cee Lo Green and Blake Shelton.

Sharon Mathai, an 18-year old Indian-American singer born to parents who hails from Kerala (India) has become a new sensation with her grip in singing advances to the top 24 in the NBC reality singing show ' The Voice' season 2. Sharon Mathai who strong-willed to fuse her dreams with music rather than averting her career to medical field made the judges and audience hold their breath testing her sound with Adele's 'Rumours Has It'. Mathai had a neck to neck race with Nicolle Galyon who sung 'Love Song' by Sara Bareilles. Adam Levine, the celebrity coach was tasked to pick the best from the two who could advance to the live show which began on April 2, 2012. Adam Levine had no second thought picking up Sharon from the live rounds where audience can vote for their favourite contestant.

'The Voice' is a much popular talent hunt realty show which consists of three phases ie; a blind audition, a battle phase, and live performance before the audience. Through a blind audition process the celebrity judges choose their teams of contestants who would advance to the next level. Sharon Mathai joins Levine's team along with Karla Davis, Katrina Parker, Kim Yarbrough, Pip, and Tony Lucca. Sharon who is an adventurous, skydiving-enthusiast from Georgia has got a unique chance to show the world her talents in music.



Mathai being an admirer of Amy Winehouse's music do love to sing pop songs. Sharon is well supported by her parents Samuel (psychiatrist) and Elsa Mathai(nurse) who migrated to US in 1991. The happy parents were really enjoying their daughter performing before the audience and judges. Sharon who loves to implement Indian music to her nerves did showcase her Indian identity by dropping her first name 'Sharon' and stick on to her surname Mathai for the show. The family occasionally visits India and also keeps her native language Malayalam on her tongue.

Even though Sharon Mathai tested her sound in "The Glee Project" but failed to go beyond the top 20. But later the fate was on to her side as she participated in the auditions of 'The Voice'. Mathai carries the basic seeds of music in her veins sown at the age of 5 as she took jazz and traditional choir lessons with much interest. She had been a part of the school choir and church choir.

Mathai started the final audition of 'The Voice" but took the stage on to her hands mesmerizing the judges who could not keeps their eyes away for watch her singing 'rumor has it'.

Sharon did thank the Indian supporters who encouraged her. 'The Voice' got to the next level with the performances of Jermaine Paul, RaeLynn, Naia Kete , Jordis Unga,Erin Willett, Charlotte Sometimes, Chris Mann, Moses Stone, Lindsey Paveo, Sera Hill, Ashley De La Rosa and Jesse Campbell.
