Celluloid, an upcoming malayalam movie directed by Kamal peeks into the life of J C Daniel who is respectably known as the founding father of Malayalam film. The man behind the first Malayalam movie Vigathakumaran did not enjoy a fruitful life as it was surrounded by miseries. Through this movie Kamal makes a travelogue into the life of J C Daniel. Prithviraj will do the lead role while Srinivasan and Samvrutha Sunil will give life to the prominent characters in the movie.

After Swapnasanchari, popular movie maker Kamal is up with a story which reveals the story of J C Daniel who is considered to be the founding father of Malayalam movies. Through this movie Kamal tries to make a travelogue into the life of J C Daniel, the man behind the first Malayalam movie Vigathakumaran. The movie which is titled as 'Celluloid' will scoop into the miserable life of the film maker who had to undergo difficulties while trying to add wings to his dream.

Prithviraj will ease the lead role while Srinivasan, Samvrutha Sunil, Anoop Menon and Tini Tom will give life to other prominent characters in the movie. While the nation is celebrating the first centenary of setting film industry, its discomfiture that we are less to known about the man who weaved a platform for movies to roll here. Vigathakumaran which was produced 84 years ago set a lamp for motion pictures in the state.



J C Daniel with a passion foot step in making the first Malayalam movie. To add wings to his dreams, he set up a studio named 'Travancore National Pictures' after selling his property. But as the movie didn't work well in the theatres, he had to sell the studio and all of his belonging to repay the debt.

As there is no proper record portraying the life of J C Daniel, Kamal had to depend on the biographies and also on a fictional piece which sketch the life of Rossey, the first heroine of malayalam film. As the movie got released, Rossey had to face tribulations and also was not allowed to enter the theatre for being a converted dalit playing the role of a Nair lady. She later escaped to Tamil Nadu and married a lorry driver.

It is known that Kamal is in search of an actress who could don the character of P K Rossey, the first heroine of Malayalam cinema. The movie is being produced under the banner of Prime Time Cinema.
