Lord mahavishnu
The history behind the existence of this temple is that, once Lord Vamana was reached at a village near Guruvayoor while travelling. According to Hindu puranas, Vamana always had a Palmyra-leaf umbrella in his hands. At that time he found a large pond and he thought that the journey can be continued after a bath in that pond. Thus he placed his umbrella near the pond and started to bath in the pond. After a bath he gets ready for continuing the journey. But, he was not able to take his umbrella from there. At last he continued his journey without taking his umbrella. After that incident, the peoples of that village found that the place has a presence of Lord Mahavishnu(Vamanan) and they constructed a temple there. Later that village was known as Venmenadu which means the Land Of Vamana. In additional to the idol of Lord Mahavishnu, there are idols of some other gods and goddesses like Lord Ayyappa,Lord Ganpathi,Poovvankavil Bhagavathi, Lord Siva.
