Pinaraiyi Vijayan is the former minister and current CPI(M) state secretary of Kerala. He is one of the political kings of Kerala state. Pinarayi Vijayan was born on 21 March 1944 in a poor family in Pinarayi Kannur district. He was married to Kamala and has two children namely Veena and Vivek. Pinarayi Vijayan has entered politics through student union activities and joined CPM in 1964. He was elected to legislative assembly of Kerala in 1970. Pinarayi Vijayan was the Minister for Electric power and Co-operatives in theE.K. Nayanar ministry from 1996 to 1998. In 1998 he was selected as state secretary of CPM Kerala and eventually elected to Politburo of CPM in 2002.
