    History of our own places

    Each one of us hail from a particular place. That place has a history.

    There will be a river,a hillock, a temple, a church, a mosque, an old building, a big pond, a person with a difference, an old school, an old traditional family, or any such other things which worth mentioning.

    The history of these will be generally related to that village's history. So let us jot down these.

    Yes. It is correct that each place has its own history, sometimes independent of other places or some time intermingled with the history of other paces. Some will have some peculiarities. In many cases, the elders will pass on the past associations of the place to the next generations. But in many cases this benefit does not exist. The elders who were busy with their own problem and the circumstances were not able to pass on and the youngsters were not aware to ask and f9nd out from elders.

    I was born in a village. The place is peculiar in the sense that it is a junction of two villages,One side is known by name Arangotukara (Arangode - Arangotri)which is in Thalapilli Thaluk, Thrissur District and the other side is known by the name Ezhumangad which is in Thrithala Thaluk, Palakkad District. Arangotukara being on the east side, it is known as Kizhakkumuri and the other portion is known as Padinjatum muri. The two sides are divided by a sub rad of the village going from North to South.

    One legend about the name of Arangotukara is that the Bharatha Puzha changed the course and shifted to North. The land so formed (Aaru Angotu Kara) was know as Arangotukara. There is a connection between the village and the Ashtavakra Muni (the Maharshi with 8 bends in body). The first CEO of the Press Trust of India (PTI) after independence was one A S Bharathan from Arangotukara. We have 4 temples one durga and one Narasihaswamy in the Arangotkara side and one Durga and one Siva in the Ezhumangad side. The Narasimhaswamy temple was a place where the Ashtavakra Muni performed poojas for some time and for his taking bath he made a temple tank of about 2 acres in area by pressing his palm in the earth with force. The tank is known as 'thrikkai kulam'. I have written a small article about the village and by mistake posted it in wrong place.
