    Gender Park in Kozhikode for Women

    The UDF Government has announced the setting up of an exclusive Center by the name "Gender Park". This for the exclusive use of ladies - women. Ladies of all hue can make use of this facility. They can use it for relaxation. There is provision for lady artists to relax or work with all the modern and update facilities for furthering their interests in art. Similarly for writers or those working wanting to concentrate without disturbances etc can make use of this center for such atmosphere.

    The concerned minister Mr Muneer announced that the Government intends to get the institution ISO certificate in that category. The minister announced that this will be with all the ultra tech facilities and will be a model for other states.

    When this is completed, this will be the first such facility provided by any state in India.

    Further to the above post some further details are available in the media now. According the the information given by the Government, the park will be named as 'Thentedam" with two meanings. One meaning is thante(self) idam (place) = own place. The other is thantedam = courage, smartness. As mentioned earlier it s exclusively for women.

    The total area of the place is five and half acres. This exclusive place or the ladies park will have research centers, training units, stages for performances, help desks, museum, convention center, cultural stages, writers' village, health clubs etc. It will also have rehabilitation units for single women, training programs for women in various fields for government employees.

    This exclusive woman's world will be open only to women. The male population may be allowed only upto the open area.

    This is a part of the women empowerment programs and is the first of its kind in the whole country. This is in Vellimadu Kunnu in Kozhikode.

    It has to be welcomed, no doubt. But the only doubt is what arrangements will be done to provide protection to women who make use of this. In the beginning something will be there, but slowly the arrangements will disappear. That is the general trend seen here. Women can make use of it in a very useful manner.

    It can be a centre for social mixing. They can organize different programmes there. The senior citizens among them can come, sit and chat there every evening. They can arrange some talks on useful topics on a particular day, every week. They can celebrate their birthdays there in the company of many similar aged women.

    There several projects one can think of, provided everything goes well.
