Endosulfan not causing health issues
This is in relation to a news item in the Manorama News paper on the above caption. The news is about the report of the expert committee formed by the Supreme Court to go into the Kasargod 'endosulfan' problem. The committee has submitted its report to the Central Government and the Government has submitted a counter affidavit to the effect that the problem in Kasargod is due to the method of use of endosulfan and not the endosulfan itself. It is a common sense matter when endosulfan is used throughout the country including Kerala, why only Kasargod is having the problem. Several committees have gone into the problem of the Kasargod and came to opposite conclusions. But it appears that the teams have gone through superficially only. Endosulfan has such no enmity only to Kasargod to trouble it alone. The largest users of this pesticide is Andhra and Maharashtra who did not want this to be banned. In fact only Karnataka supported Kerala in the beginning when there was lot of noise made in Kerala. Later Karnataka also was also not interested in the ban. The finding of the committee appears to be logical and reasonable that the spraying is the culprit and not endosulfan itself. This is because as of now Kasargod is the only place where aerial spraying of endosulfan is practiced.
