In Kerala the schools and colleges are soon going to start the formation of 'Anti-addiction Clubs' as part of the State Government's decision to start campaign against the use of liquor, drug-addiction and use of pan masala.

The youth of kerala are really addicted to these drugs which are a cause of increase in criminal activities in kerala. Today there was a news that the KPCC President wrote a letter to the Prime Minister to ban pan masala. Let us hope the new initiative brought by the state government will bring good for the society.

The Kerala State Government's initiative is to be welcomed. Due to the social circumstances, tension and pressures etc people of all age groups go for easy virtues. This is no exception for the youngsters. In fact they are more prone to easy virtues due to several factors. One factor is the grouped activities. In the young minds there is much influence to the group influence. If the group is in practice of drinks or drugs it will spread fast like a wild fire. The temporary euphoria it creates i mind attracts the mind again for the stimulants.

Then gradually the users get addicted and cannot live without the drinks or drugs. These stimulants bring out the base instincts in us and turns us gradually int criminals. The anti addiction clubs will retrieve a major portion of those who would havae gone permanently. In turn they will influence others in their contact. Since they have the actual experience of the vices, they will be able to convince others better. It will have a chain effect. Let us hope that the general public and the parents will actively participate and support the scheme for the benefit of the society.

"Anti-addiction Clubs in schools" is a great idea. We should extend all support to such activities, as it directly affect our children. At the same time efforts to ban pan masala also should be encouraged.

Harshan
