Electoral performance: Vakkom committee faults KPCC leadership

Thiruvananthapuram: The Vakkom Purushothaman committee, probing the off-colour election performance of the Congress in the last assembly polls, in its report has said that the party lost more than 20 seats because of the mistakes committed by various sections including the leadership.

The findings of the report, submitted to the KPCC leadership a few weeks ago, was reported by a private TV channel.

The report doesn't leave out KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala and Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. Both the leaders committed mistakes in the selection of candidates, the report says.

The leadership was not able to prevent the fielding of some candidates who were not suited for the character of the constituencies. The report hints that the opposition from within has robbed the party of its better prospects.

The committee, which also includes A.C. Jose and V.S. Vijayaraghavan also blames DCC leaderships in Kollam and Kozhikode. The committee assumes that the UDF could have got up to 95 seats in the state.

According to the channel, the report has recommended action mostly against party officials from DCC members and above.
