Our Festival 'Onam' is coming..

"Maveli naadu vaneedum kaalam
Manushar ellarum onnupole
Aamodathode vasikkum kaalam
Aapathengarkkumotilla thaanum.

All malayalees know this song. Because this song tells the history of a past traditionalism and honest-full Kerala.
Now all situations are changed. But in everyone's mind onam is the festival of happiness and prosperity. Anyone, who rich or poor; they celebrate the day with their own style.. Sadya, OOnjal, Pookkalam, Onappaattu, Onakkodi like how many varieties for our festival.

Kerala Government announces many offers for us to celebrate Onam with more pleasure. Onam kits, Special train services, and very special Onakhosham.. Also i think now the textiles shops are crowded with people for buy thier onakkodi(Onam dress), for that all textile shops offer many discounts and gifts for their customers. Jewelery shops are also crowded because "Chingam" is the season for marriages too.

Our Mahabeli Thampuran comes on Thiruvonam day for seeing us, our pleasure. That's a belief among us. Anyways we prepare all for welcoming our former honest Raja.

Onam is always a great festival for people in Kerala. It unites the people of Kerala tive over time. It is not only the festival of one religion now. Everybody is happy to enjoy this festival. Onam is the festival of flowers. Children are very joyous to engage in this festival.

Maveli naadu vaneedum kaalam ..... is an evergreen song. The song is composed to explain the condition that was prevailing at the time of the ruler Maveli. Manushar ellaarum onnu pole means all people were equal, equal in status, caste community and creed etc. In nutshell it is equality in opportunity and in every field.

That is what the Karl Marx's theory wanted to introduce in the whole worldwide. But Kerala had the experience thousands of years before Karl Marx was borne. The comrades were supposed to introduce this principle wherever they have strength. But the way in which their organizations are functioning the situation will never arise at least through them.

That apart, essence of the song is that the period of Maveli was a golden era for the people of Kerala. The celebration of the festival with onassadya, ona pudava and onakkali etc are to commemorate the Maveli's time.

Hi prashob,
The song "Maveli nadu vaneedum kaalam....."denotes golden era Of King Mahabhali Thambhuran.Because his season all citizens are completely satisfied with his power.So King Mahabhali is kmown as ideal king of history.
Onam is the one of major festival of Kerala peoples.Because it carry more comfort and relief between family members.Pookalam designing and pulikkali is main attraction of Onam.
But now days Onam celebration turn to more artificial.All peoples purchase Onam sadhaya from famous restaurants.They spend more time to watch T.v programs.
Any way my heartily Onam wishes to all.
