MLAs Performance Audit for Kerala Assembly Members

The Kerala Legislative assembly is introducing a system of audit for the elected representatives of the people of Kerala. The performances of the members in the assembly proceedings will be published in the Assembly web site. The record will have the total number of days and hours attended by the members. The number of questions raised the number of calling attentions raised and the number of occasions participated in the debates etc.

This is a very welcome step. The people will know how their representatives perform in their duties as members of the assembly. There should also be a system of audit as the the work done in the constituencies for the members as well as those who are likely to contest in the next election.

For the first time in the history of the Kerala assembly, the performance of all legislators would be subject to a performance audit

Details such as the legislators' attendance, how many questions were asked and how many calling attention motions were raised will be put up on the assembly's website.

I am sure this would be able to raise the level of each legislator.
    This is a welcome step.

The Kerala assembly has 140 elected members, including the speaker, and one nominated Anglo-Indian member.

True it is welcome. But what if one MLA does not perform well? Will there be any action from the concerned Party take necessary steps to correct him. People cannot do anything until the next election. Perhaps a minimum level of performance expect of an MLA also can be discussed. They must be performing above this level, to be expected.
