Ban on endosulfan production to continue.

The Supreme Court has banned the production of Endosulfan in India. It allowed the manufacturers to export 1090 tonnes of endosulfan with all safety measures. This judgement by a three member court is based on the petition filed by the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI).

Export was allowed because of the plea by the manufacturers based on their commitment with certain outside agencies.

The Supreme Court judgement on the ban of Endosulfan is strange. While it is considered that the pesticide/insecticide is not fit for our use, we do not mind others suffering. Allowing of exports amount to it. It is just like the sellers of opium/heroine etc do not want their children to take it. But they want the children of others to enjoy the same. Of course the court has to decide on the basis of the facts of the matter put to them that too on the basis of the reports of the experts.
