It may be temporary phenomenon. However the distribution of rice through ration shops at a very low price has brought down the price of rice in the open market. This is a welcome change. Perhaps this type of interference by the Government in the matter of price of all major consumer items, including vegetables, can change the market to a very large extent.
Recently I had to participate in a training class on vegetable production in the houses (kitchen garden and terrace garden). There were more than 200 people, majority being women, to attend the same. They were very serious too. The class was organised and handled by experts from the Agricultural department. So a change is taking place among the people, which is a welcome one.
