You are right. It has been an attraction of tourists from inside and outside the State as well as foreigners. Perhaps nowhere in the country so vast area of water bodies are present as this, leaving apart rivers.
These backwaters are helping growth of various marine ans fresh water fishes and such other life forms too, which add to the economy of the country.
Of late, the conditions are becoming bad. The reclamation of water bodies are going on in several parts of the State both for public and private projects, Private individuals are also at it. Estimates show that the total area of Vembanad lake, the largest among the lakes in the State, have got reduced by one third.
So this beautiful sights and tourist attractions might become a thing of the past if no actions are taken to control the encroachments.
