Monsoon played hide and seek this year

September is coming to an end, that means the South – West monsoon saying goodbye to Kerala. This year this monsoon has not done justice to Kerala in the sense that the amount of rain is lower by 21% of the usual quota. Generally the expected quota is 204 cm rain during the period from 1st June to 30th September. What is received was about 155 cm. only.

There is some variation among the districts in terms of the quantity of rain received. In six of the districts the shortage was not much, it was in the allowable limits. These districts are Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Kozhikkod, Kannur and Kasarkod. Among them Kozhikkod received the maximum, 93%. Wayanad received the minimum, 53%. It is interesting to note that our neighbouring Lakshadweep received 20% more than the usual quota of rain !

Last year the northern districts of Kerala received more rain to the level of 10 to 28 % .

True Sir, this year monsoon has not done justice to Kerala. in many places of Kerala, people are suffering due to scarcity of water. In our village, people did not cultivate paddy this year as they received rain very late.
