Ernakulam-Thrissur MEMU service flagged off finally

It is a heartening news item that the much delayed Mainline Electrical Multiple Unit (MEMU) train service was finally flagged off on its inaugural running from Eranakulam to Thrissur on 23-3-13 in the presence of Union Minister of State for Food and Consumer Affairs K.V. Thomas, MPs and MLAs from Eranakulam. At resent the service will be only single trip each from Thrissur at 10.50 a.m. reaching Ernakulam at 12:55 p.m. The return trip will start from Ernakulam at 2.30 p.m. and reach Thrissur by 4.50 p.m. The time taken is about 2 hrs and 15 minutes. The fare is Rs 15/-. The authorities have assured that the service will be extended to Palakkad later. Let us hope that the railways will make the runs to Palakkad via Shoranur and the will introduce more trips instead of the present single ones. Similarly more such services should be introduced between other District centers.
