Veliyam Bhargavan passed away

Veteran Communist leader and former Kerala State Secretary of Communist Party of India (CPI) passed away yesterday due to illness. He was suffering from breathing trouble.

Born in 1928 he started as a freedom fighter. Earlier he tried to follow the line of a Sanyasin. He had a primary education in Sanskrit literature, because of that he used to speak philosophically even in political speeches.He was a principled politician who never went after power. He was elected to Kerala Assembly twice but never became a minister. He preferred to lead the party. He is known as 'Aasaan' (teacher) among his party fellows.

He was instrumental in the formation of Left Democratic Front, still he fought for his party to get the deserving positions within the Front.
Cremation of Veliyam's body will take place this afternoon at Thiruvananthapuram.
