Deepawali - A Festival of Colors and Light
Deepawali is the festival of colors and the celebration of victory of virtue over evil. It is also called festival of light. Normally, the diwali festival last four days. True to this word, this festival literally illuminates the whole country with brilliance and dazzle. No wonder, it also lights our minds with splendor of color and joy.Historically, the origin of deepawali or diwali can be traced back to ancient India. During that period, it was probably a harvesting festival. However, there are many legends doing round, explaining the origin of Diwali in India. One legend says that it was an occasion to celebrate the marriage of Lord Vishnu with Devi Mahalakshmi. In Bengal, the festival is dedicated to the worship of Matha Kali, the dark goddess of strength. During this festival, even Lord Vigneshwara is also worshipped at many homes. In Jainism, this festival is marked as the day of attainment of Spriritual Bliss by Lord Mahavira. According to Ramayana, the day of diwali marks the coming back of Lord Rama with his spouse Sita and brother Lakshmana from 14-year jungle-dwelling.
