    Bus fares hiked in Kerala

Govt in Kerala decided to hike the bus fares by an average of 10% in all classes in view of rising the fuel cost and other transport accessories

Rate revision for improvement in service is acceptable, but hike for offseting the fuel cost and transport accessories is not a welcome step

It has become a routine affair that the Govt. revise the bus fare when the bus owners threaten or go for a strike. Very often the plight of ordinary people is overlooked. Now the minimum charge is Rs.7/-.
There is a class of people, especially women, who survive by doing cleaning, washing and such other sundry works in other houses. Most of them stay in suburban areas and travel to city to attend these works. They depend the ordinary buses. For them the monthly income is limited. These people are directly affected with these bus fare hike.
Similarly the girls working in various shops in cities are daily spending a good sum as bus fare.
They also are affected with this fare rise.

This time the bus fare hike has not created much of a noise among the general public. May be the people were after the results of Loksabha election results. Schools are yet to open, so the students are not in the field. Perhaps Government chose this as an appropriate time for taking a decision on this hike.

Rise in bus fair is not a new issue for people in Kerala. Strikes have become a part of people's life. Its is very difficult for the normal workers to afford such bus fair as their daily income is very low that they are not even able satisfy their own needs. So government should introduce more passenger buses with low rate for such people. Hoping for the best.
