India: A sleeping giant of world football..?

Our recent record in the international football is pathetic. India is currently ranked 145th out of 207football playing nations in the governing body FIFA's rankings.
The passion for the game is confined to only few states. But football viewership is increasing year by year. Now more people in India watching the English Premier League (EPL) than in England which shows popularity is increasing.

The big money is set to pour in to the game. A new football league called Indian Super League (ISL) is formed by a joint venture between All India Football Federation (AIFF) and corporates. It is announced that eight city based franchises will take part in two months competition starting from September. It is the latest attempt to popularize football in our country.
Through ISL our local players are getting opportunity to play with international players.

So, we can expect a football renaissance.
