From now on, attest your own affidavits & documents

Thiruvananthapuram: From now on, you need not bank on a Gazetted Officer to attest your certificates and affidavits while applying for PSC postings and other government services.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had stated after last week's cabinet meeting that the rule that Gazetted Officers had to attest certificates and affidavits would be dumped.

The government order to this effect, which comes into effect with immediate effect, states that self attested documents can be produced from now on. However, during the final stages of the process original documents should be presented to the concerned authorities, top sources in Personnel and Administration Department told Manorama Online.

The Govt. Order also states that if the self attested documents are found to be forged in the final stages, candidates will be debarred.

However, for some select applications gazetted officers would have to attest documents in the initial stages even now.

The order comes in the wake of the recommendations of the 12th report of the second Administrative Reforms Commission.

The Center had directed the state governments to give permission for self attesting documents. The state government's move comes in this backdrop.
