Holding of new liquor policy of Kerala
The Supreme Court stopped Kerala's new liquor policy under which 730 bar owners were asked to close down while five-star hotels were spared. A Bench of Justices Anil R Deve and U U Lalit acknowledged that drinking was a social problem which ruined families but said an abrupt halt, by shutting down certain estblishments and leaving untouched five-star hotels and toddy shops, was not the solution.
