Demice of Justice V R Krishna Iyer - Voice of Poor & Deprived

Justice Padma Vibhushan V R Krishna Iyer was borne on 11-15-1914 in Vaidyanathapuram in Palakkad Dst of Kerala in a Tamil Brahmin family, but grew up at Koyilandi. He was elected as an MLA in 1952 to the then Madras Assembly. In 1957 he became a minister in the first non congress LDF Govt holding law, power, prisons, irrigation and social welfare Portfolios. He was responsible for the Land Revenue Act and other several pieces of people-oriented legislations of Kerala.

He served in various capacities after his stint as minister. On 2-7-1968 he was appointed as a judge of Kerala H C. On 17-7-73 he was elevated as a Judge of SC till 14-11-80. He was a Law Commission Member from 1971 to 73. He had given many land mark judgements and received brickbats and abuses for his granting stay to Allahabad HC case on Indira Gandhi's election. Justice V R Krishna Iyer was a part of the 'Citizen panel' which inquired into the 2002 Gujarat Riots. He has written about 70 books on law, travel and in Tamil. Till he was ill, a few weeks back Justice Padma Vibhushan V R Krishna Iyer was actively involved in political and Social activities for the benefit of Common man.

Justice Padma Vibhushan V R Krishna Iyer lost his wife earlier and is survived by 2 sons. Kerala lost an illustrious Son in the death of Padma Vibhushan Justice V R Krishna Iyer. Let us all pray for his soul to Rest In Peace.
