Backwardness of Kerala in Industrial and Agriculture Production

Why in Kerala industrial and agricultural production going down
  • #1482
Yes Manoj we hear lots of big Industries set up elsewhere in the Country and not in Kerala. I wonder why. May be the topography of the state does not suit the Industry. And why the state is backward in agri sector is also the matter to ponder over. Then what the hell the elected MP's and MLA's are doing for the state.

The current situation in Kerala with regard to Industrial Growth and Agricultural sector is alarming. The trends in Agricultural income for the last two decades is inconsistent. In 90s it was showing a positive trend which later dived to the bottom level. in 1993-94, the contribution from Agricultural income to the State Income was 26.24% which is reduced to 13.72 in 2002-03 and below the magic figure of 10 by 2005-06. So also the industrial growth did not show any positive sign. In spite of the fact that exchequer have pumped crores on various counts like Industrial policy, IT policy, Biotechnology policy, Labour policy, Export policy, Global investor Meets etc etc, the State's status as far as Industrial Growth is concerned is still at the low ebb. The fact that there is hardly any growth of Private Industries in Kerala after 2000-01 speaks volumes. A vibrant team can only deliver the goods. NRI industrialists are afraid of investing in Kerala and this climate needs to undergo serious change.

NO & YES are two short words, which need a long thought..., most of the things we miss in life are due to saying NO too soon or YES too late. Have a great day.

Government should act more realistically. It should give emphasize to state's development rather than trying to increase the pocket of leaders, and playing with internal politics. Many of the new projects are still remaining in papers due to the lack of interest from governmental part. Smart city is the best example. Opposition should also be co-operative. They should join hand with government to welcome the deals which are favorable for the state, rather than trying to take gains.
Agriculture should be given much more importance. Our government was total failure in providing a better environment in Kuttanad and many other regions. Consequently a big lose was resulted. Government failed to provide labor, machinery and even the adequate compensations. If we need developments, this mentality of government should be changed. Also people should be more co-operative. Many of our projects lack momentum due to the burden of land acquisitions. Government should promote this by giving market price for the acquitted land.

You are very much correct Mr Thomas. In fact, a review of the performance will speak that lot many projects are only in paper. Without materialisation of such important projects, all the Ministers will now be on a spree of "laying foundation" for new projects and this is only to befool the masses and with an eye on the forthcoming elections. While the climate is conducive so as to have agricultural and industrial growth, the power politics will not allow this to happen. Ultimately, the people at large suffer. Imagine, had the past Govts adopted few measures to encourage agricultural crops, the current prices for all vegetables would have been reasonable.
