    A tragedy at Sabarimala, 100 feared killed

    A big tragedy has occurred in Sabarimala after the well known and famous Makarajyoti festival which brings in Lakhs of devotees to the area.

    About 100 devotees were killed while they were returning from Sabaimala after the Makarajyoti festival. This tragedy happened while the devotees were getting down from the Sabarimala hills and returning to their homes.

    Actual reasons of what happened at that time is not known as per Police sources. A jeep seems to have failed and over turned , causing a stampede. Some more vehicles lost control and started falling on the walking devotees. More than a hundred are feared killed, the correct number is not yet known. Investigations are going on.

    Out of the persons killed 3 have been recognised. One is Porukutty frommalappuram, Suresh from Mysore and Anbarasu from Thiruppur, Tamilnadu.

    Devaswom Board is taking over the expenses for the medical facilities and the treatments needed for the injured.

    Many of the devotees feared dead are from karnataka, Tamilnadu and Andhra. Till now about 102 dead bodies have been found. THe unrecognized dead bodies are being kept in the hospital mortuaries till their relatives come and recognize them.

    Postmortem has started at the Kumily hospital. 40 have been recognized till now. 44 persons have been injured.

    Central Goverment have announced a interim relief of Rupees 1 lakh for the family of the dead and Rupees 50000 for the injured persons.

    Latha Jayaprakash its a great pain to note that over 102 Ayyappan pilgrims have lost their lives . It seems this tragedy happened while the devotees were getting down from the Sabarimala hills and returning to their homes. Still detail are pouring in and the injured are being attended too.

    It is said that the accident happened during the devotees were getting down from the hills after seeing the Makara Jyoti at the Temple.

    It is being said that this the third time such an accident is taking place when the Makara sankarathi falls on the 14th of January. In 1952 there was an accident while the crackers were going on, 1999 jan it was stampede while getting down and now this.

    All of these tragedies have happened when the Makara sankaranthi falls on the 14th January. This is really a big tragedy of the year and is very painful to see all these in the television channels.
