First President Trophy Boat Race

"Shree Ganesh" won for the first 'President trpohy' Boat Race. The race that was 30th August(yesterday) at Astamudi lake , Kollam. The Kollam St. Francis Boat club which makes Shree Ganesh Chundan got the first President Trophy from our Honorable President Prathibha Patil. They got the cash prize of Rs 1 lakh also.
second Prize(Rs 75000 and Trophy) was gone for "Devas Chundan" by Kollam Jesus boat club and third prize(Rs 50000 and Trophy) for "Aanari Chundan" by Kottayam Thiruvarphu boat club.
The Boat Race was flagged off by the present Labor Minister Shibu Baby John.

There are many boat races in the central and south Kerala due to the landscape interspersed with the water bodies of kayals (lakes). When the first Prime Minister,m Jawaharlal Nehru visited Kerala including Alapuzha, he was impressed by the boat race sports and on the spot announced a trophy for the winner in the Nehru trophy boat race.

This year with the addition of the president's trophy the prestigious event have risen to two in a year, the P M's and President's trophies. Hence the spirit of the water sports will be raised. It is a welcome aspect as the locals will have importunity to expose their talent in this particular sphere.

Now there will be competitions between these two races to make event more and more colourful and it will be still more enjoyable than till now.

Boat races in Kerala is a very good competition item. It attracts many tourists all across the world. I think our Government should do more to encourage this Boat Racing. It is a special identity of Kerala. Watching the boat racing is a stunning scene.

Hi Prashop,
Snake boat rices have better importance in Kerala state.Because snake boat races are the major attractuion Onam festival.Most of all it can provide better contribution in tourist field by attracting more peoples in Kerala state.That will provide internal and external benefits to our state.It is good thing introduce new trophy in snake boat races.It will give more benefits and attracts more people this field.
