About Soochippara Waterfalls


Soochippara waterfalls in Wayanad district is one of the biggest waterfalls in Kerala. It is also known by the name Sentinal Rock Waterfalls. The beauty of the shimmering water after it hits the huge rocks is a nice seen. The waterfalls is actually located in a place known as Meppadi. Soochippara waterfall is an ideal place for the tourists who love adventure. The rock caves are some other interesting feature in Soochippara. The word ‘Soochippara' itself is related to the rocks which means the needle like rocks. We can also see a rich biodiversity here, in the dense equatorial forest vegetation. The tea estates of Meppadi are some other interesting seens that we can enjoy while our journey to Soochippara.

Soochippara falls is about 100 to 300 feet in height and its pool is an excellent spot for swimming, bathing etc. The authorities are also entertaining the water sports like river rafting etc. So the tourists who loves to do river rafting can visit Soochippara. One can also stay in the natural habitat, if they wish. Tree houses are provided for them.

Best Time to Visit Soochippara


Heavy rainy season is advisable to avoid. Tourists can visit here during the months of October to May since this season is best for sight seeing and all water sports. During heavy monsoon, the rocks may be slippery and there is more chance for danger.

Accessing Soochippara falls


To reach Soochippara, One has to come via Meppadi. Meppadi is about 23 kms from Kalpetta. There is 13 kms journey through the tea plantations of Chooral hills. Soochippara is 43 kms from Sulthan Batheri and 58 kms from Mananthavadi. Tourism promotion committee has been established to give proper guidance.

It needs a 1 km walking to the falls from the place where we park our vehicles. Tourism department of Soochippara is controlled by DTPC and Forest Protection Samithi. Adults are charged Rs.20 and children for Rs.10. Starting time is 8 o clock in the morning and will close sharply at 5pm in the evening.
