Ghee lamps are usually lighted up in kani darshan to bring out prosperity throughout the year. Vishu festival is also connected with the story of Lord Rama in Ramayana. Apart from Kerala, Vishu is also celebrated in the southern part of Karnataka. What is the purpose of keeping metal mirror in Vishu kani? This is a common question heard from people. Generally, metal mirror is kept as a symbolic representation of Goddess.

Near to metal mirror, you can also put items like Beetel leaves, turmeric and rice in vessels made of uruli. Coconut made into two pieces are generally used to light the wicks. Turmeric with immense healing power is generally placed to prevent the occurrence of health issues in life. Similar to turmeric, yellow flower is another important item placed for the preparation of Vishu kani. Actually, this particular flower is considered as the ornament of Lord Krishna.
