BSE Sensex above 18640 level - 7/09/10


The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Benchmark Index popularly known as Sensex closed at 18645.06, registering an increase of 85.01 points or 0.46 percent up from its previous close on Monday. Among the major gainers in the sensex were L & T, ACC, TCS and Jaiprakash Associates. The notable losers were Hindustan Unilever, HDFC Bank and Tata Power The National Stock Exchange (NSE) Nifty also closed at 5604 points an increase of 0.49 percent.

Analysts opine that steady capital inflows coupled with strong growth in the economy and encouraging corporate results were the main factors which lifted indices, both Sensex and Nifty to levels not seen in the last about 31 months. Today's rally was very spectacular in the cement counters where all the cement stoks gained handsomely.

In the meanwhile Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) announced its quarterly results for June 2010. BSE reported profit after tax of Rs 50.77 crores. The face value of the share is Re.1/. The share capital of BSE is Rs. 10.34 cores against which the General Reserves of BSE stood at Rs. 1881.74 crores as on March 31, 2010. /.
