Munnar is a town located at the South Western Ghats of India. It is situated at the Idukki district of Kerala.It is favorite tourist spot in Kerala with its enchanting natural beauty and cool climate.

Munnar: Details

Munnar is located at the Idukki district of Kerala. The name Munnar is derived from 'Munu' which means three and 'aaru' which means river. As the name indicates it consists of three rivers Muthirapuzha,Nalathany, and Kundali rivers.This town is situated at an altitude of 2000 to 2600 meter above the mean sea level.
Munnar is famous for its natural beauty and cool climate. It is one of the most popular tourist destination in Kerala. The Tourists can feel the charming beauty and salubrious climate of this place. The temperature ranges between 10degree celcius to 0 degree celcius in winter and 8 degree cecius to 16 degree celcius in summer.The area around this place is covered by vast jungles and it remains cold and wet during most of the years.

Munnar: Tourism

In 2000, Government had declared Munnar as a tourist spot. The tourist season in Munnar is from August to May.Most residents are employing in tea industry , so we can see a lots of tea gardens on several hills of Munnar. The beautiful hill resort, several wildlife areas and attractive climate attracts the tourists.The flower known as 'Neelakurinchi' which will appear only once in twelve years is a beautiful sight to be seen. The whole hill will appear in blue color at that time.
The hill station has many adventures to offer such as boating in the reservoirs of many dams, elephant safari, trekking, camping and wildlife safaris in the jungles and sanctuary. Thus Munnar becomes a favorable picnic spot for those who loves adventures.
