Cinematographer-turned-Director Santhosh Sivan coming with his new epic film titled Urumi after his experience of previous Bolly wood epic film "Asoka" in the year 2001 with Sharukh Khan and Kareena Kapoor. While Asoka was a life story Indian Emperor 'The Great Ashoka', who ruled India from 273 BCE to 232 BCE, "Urumi" is a story of a boy named 'Chiraycakal Kelu Nair' who wanted to slay the brutal famous European traveler 'Vasco Da Gama'. The film is making at big budget of more than 22 crores which is the second highest expensive film in Mollywood following Pazhasiraja. The film is producing Prithviraj, Shaji Nateshan and Santhosh Sivan under their new soaring production company called August Cinema. The film is making at same time in English in the name of "The boy who wanted to kill Vasco Da Gama".
Film Director Santhosh Sivan himself is handling the camera and story was written by Sankar Ramakrishna, who became famous by directing short story titled 'Island express' in Kerala café. The film is editing by A. Sreekar Prasad.
Santhosh Sivan and crew are in the final stage of shooting of Urumi in Kerala and the forests of Malshej Ghat, Maharashtra. The total team was started the long shooting after the last Onam season. Indian adept camera man 'Santhosh Sivan's ' latest film ' 'Urumi'' portrays the story of a gang people who want to assassinate famous combatant 'Vasco Da Gama' against his brutal manners. Vasco Da Gama is the first European traveler who landed down at ' 'Kappadu beach'' in Calicut, Kerala in 15th century in the year 1498. The film is all about Chiraycakal Kelu nair who was the leader of the group who planned to kill Portuguese traveler Vasco Da Gama for his cruel deeds against the villagers. According to historical book Vasco Da Gama was the traveller who discovered the first sea route to India. The story was taking place in the princely state nemed 'Kolathunadu' of Kerala.
