Devotees perform Bali Tharppanm on the banks of this river in honor of the forefathers. Sivaratri according to Hindu considered to be the Night were Lord Shiva who safeguards his devotees Day and Night sleeps on this night and the devotees stays awake to make sure nothing disturbs Lord Shiva's sleep.

On Aluva Sivarathri , Devottes perform Balitharppanam in the morning and by the sun sets there are cultural programs arranged in the Manappuram, to make the devotes stay awake through the night .
