There are many types of chicken curries. One of them is jeeragam chicken in which jeeragam or cumin (jeera) seeds are the main ingredient. Read this article to know the recipe for Malabari style Jeeragam chicken curry.

Jeera chicken

Malabari style Jeeragam Chicken curry

Ingredients

1 kg chicken (cut into pieces)
3½ tbsps jeeragam (cumin seeds)
Salt to taste
3 tbsps coconut oil
4 onions (sliced long)
2 tbsps Ginger-garlic-green chilly paste
1 tbsp peppercorns
1½ chilly powder
A pinch of turmeric powder
1 tbsp lemon juice
A sprig of curry leaves for garnish

Method

First, roast the jeeragam and peppercorns for some time without pouring any oil. Wait for to cool and then grind it without adding any water at all. The mixture should be completely dry while grinding. Then, mix this ground mixture with chilly powder. Now, this mixture will act as a marinade for the chicken. So, marinate the chicken with this mixture paste and ginger-garlic-green chilly paste and leave it for 45 minutes. Now, heat coconut oil in a pan and add onions. Saute the onions till it becomes brown in colour. Add turmeric powder. Add the chicken to the pan along with salt as per taste. Let the chicken cook on high heat till the chicken pieces become soft. Now, add enough water to make it look like a gravy. Again leave the chicken to be cooked well enough to eat. Switch off the gas, pour lemon juice and garnish with curry leaves.
