Jawahar Navodaya Vidyala Samiti has opened the application for the admission of students to class VI (through JNVST 2012) to all Navodaya Vidyalayas across the country. A maximum of eighty students are admitted in Class VI in each Vidyalaya, through a Selection Test subject to availability of suitable candidates. Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas are started all over India (except in Tamil Nadu) in accordance with the National Policy of Education (1986). The Scheme envisages establishment of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, one in each district of the country. All these Vidyalayas are completely residential schools financed by the Government of India and undertaken by Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) under the Ministry of Human Resource Development. Free education is given to all the students getting admissions in these schools which includes their lodging, food, uniforms, textbooks and stationary. But a fee of Rs 200 per month is to be given after reaching class IX and it continues still Class XII. This fees is not applicable to children belonging to SC/ST, Girls and those whose family belong to the Below Poverty Line class.
