The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is all set to hit the markets in Kerala soon. It has been already launched before the media. It is one of the most anticipated Android smartphones. The phone is manufactured by Samsung for Google. it was earlier referred to as the Google Nexus Prime. The name is the result of collaboration between Samsung's Galaxy and Google's Nexus brands. The Galaxy Nexus was presented at Google and Samsung's Ice Cream Sandwich event on 19 October, 2011 in Hong Kong.

Features and Specifications

The Galaxy Nexus will be the first phone to run on Android 4.0 operating system which is also called 'Ice Cream Sandwich'. It is the latest version of the Android operating system.
Samsung Galaxy Nexus is made of plastic in an unique curved glass shape. It is covered with hyper-skin coating on the back side.

The phone measures 135.5 x 67.9 x 8.9 mm. It weighs about 135 grams and built in Candybar model. The phone has a 4.65 inch Super AMOLED HD display with a resolution of 720 X 1280 pixels. The Galaxy Nexus has no physical keys in the front. It is the first phone to be installed with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Operating Systed. The Galaxy Nexus features a dual-core 1.2GHz TI OMAP 4460 processor.

The phone includes an LED flash enabled 5 megapixel camera with zero shutter lag. The camera is powered with Auto focus, Geo tagging, Digital zoom, Touch Focus and Image Stabilization. A 1.3 MP front camera is also added to it. The Galaxy Nexus phone can record 1080p HD videos. The front camera enables the user to make video calls. The phone has a 1GB RAM. It will be available in both 16 GB and 32 GB versions. But it has not got the micro SD slot for memory expansion. It is capable of carrying 4G services. The micro USB 2.0 port, Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n connectivity, dual band and DLNA functionality are other major functionalities. It has got a Wi-Fi hotspot. The Galaxy Nexus has an FM radio and a 3.5mm headset jack. It also has Dual Microphones for active noise cancellation. The video formats MPEG4, H.264, H.263, WMV, DivX, Xvid and VC-1 will be supported by the phone. The supported audio formats include MP3, OGG, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, AMR-NB AMR-WB, WMA, WAV, MID, AC3, IMY, FLAC and XMF. There is a Barometer sensor in the phone for accurate initial GPS calculations. The battery is of 1750 mAh. The typical Android services like Google Wallet, Android Beam and Android Market are also available in the phone.

Cost and News

In Kerala, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is expected to launch by the end of 2011. The phone is expected to have a market price of around Rs. 35,000. The phone will be available in Black colour only.
