Veli is one of the charming picnic spot in Kerala which is situated near the coast of Arabian sea. Veli tourist village is about 8 kms from Thiruvananthapuram. It is separated from the Arabian sea by a sand bar. Veli lake is also one of the beautiful lagoons of Kerala which is decorated by gardens near its shore. It is a calm place away from the hustle-bustle of the city and the noise level is also low. This is an ideal destination for boating as well as adventure sports. A children's park is also there in the vicinity along with a floating bridge which connects the Shankumugham beach. There are many hotels near by Veli which facilitates food and accommodation. Youth hostel is one such place.

Veli Tourist Village is about 8 kms from Thiruvananthapuram city. The place is very near to Shankumugham beach and Thiruvananthapuram International Airport. The nearest Railway Station is Thiruvananthapuram Railway Station which is about 8 kms away and Thiruvananthapuram International is the nearest Airport which is 3 kms away. So it is simply a walking distance from Thiruvananthapuram Airport and an autoriksha ride from railway station. If not tourist cars and KSRTC buses are always available from Thiruvananthapuram city to Veli Tourist Village.

Boating in Veli Tourist Village

Boating in beautiful lagoons of Veli is one of the exclusive features of Veli tourist village. These include speed boating, paddling etc. Boating in Veli lagoons behind the beautiful background of sunset is a special attribute. The boating is available for cheap rents. The rentals of these boats are as follows. Safari boat: Rs 15 per head, Speedboat: Rs 150, Pedal boat: 4 seater - Rs 50 for half an hour; 2 seater - Rs 40 for half an hour.

Tips to the Visitors

Visitors are recommended to plan their trip in the evening so that the place looks very lovely and can carry out their boat rides watching the beauty of setting sun. Visitors please note that even if you are under the open sky in the morning and evening with a pleasant weather, but then in the noon it gets warm and are having powerful sun shine. So you are advised to carry some sun glasses, sun screen lotions etc. Visitors can also avoid their visit during the months of April, May, June and July because of hot season and monsoon.
