Makaravilakku attracts thousands of devotees every year to Sabarimala. Devotees come from almost all places, however the majority are from the South Indian States.
Makaravilakku coincides with the Makara pongal. A light on the hill top far away from the temple where people gather is the main attraction of the day. Devotees believe it is from an unknown source, though it is known that the same is arranged by the Devaswam Board and the Forest authorities. However, it is the belief which attracts thousands.
