Idukki Arch Dam
Idukki Arch Dam is one among the best visited places in Kerala by tourists across the world. This 168.9 m tall arch dam is located between Kurathimala and Kuravanmala. Today, Idukki dam is owned by KSEB and supports a hydroelectric power station in Moolamattom. You can define Idukki dam as the one among the tallest arch dams in the world.
Dam started power generation on October 4 1975. This parabolic thin arc dam in Idukki had attracted hundreds of tourists from different parts of the world. Studies say that this dam was built in conjunction with the construction of Kulamavu and Cheruthoni dams. You can also find here an artificial lake created by the adjoining of three dams.
Moolamattom power station
As said earlier, there is a power generation center situated inside the rocky caves here. This power generation center situated near the arch dam is known as Moolamattom power station.
