In Manikyakallu, Prithviraj will be seen for the first time in a teacher's role. The film is a family thriller and has been directed by M.Mohanan who debuted in Malayalam film industry with the mega hit film 'Kadha parayumbol'. This debut film of the director has been such a big hit and it was also remade in many languages of the south and also in Bollywood as 'Billu'. The main cast of Manikyakallu are Prithviraj and Samvritha Sunil. The story revolves around a government school called Vannanmala school. It is one of the most popular schools in that district. Even with its outstanding past, the school ultimately starts to fail in its functioning and gradually the number of students being enrolled in the school reduces to a huge extent. As a result, the school is on the verge of being shut down. All the teachers of the school, including the principal Kurup Maash (Nedumudi Venu) lose all hopes and carry on with their own personal activities without paying enough heed to the duties towards the school. The principal also begins to use a part of the school area as a warehouse for his fertiliser factory. To make matters worse, the results of the final examinations of the school's existing batch were also pathetic. Innocent is portraying the role of the school's Head master.
During these circumstances, a young teacher named Vinayachandran (Prithviraj) enters the picture and requests to get a transfer to this government school. Undoubtedly, this act of his shocks everyone else, especially the faculty of the government school. Even after knowing the current situation of the school, Prithviraj arrives there with some good intentions and plans in his mind to revive the school. How the young teacher achieve this target is what forms the crux of the film's story. The film has the right mixture of sentiments and comedy. The characters in the film are very much relatable and the entire story has a natural and realistic touch to it. Samvritha Sunil is the heroine in this film and her character is named as Chandni. She is also teaching in the government school as a sports teacher but she is not really dedicated towards her duties of educating the children.
