Review of Manikya Kallu
Manikyakallu, the latest movie of Prithviraj, released in Kerala today, May 5, 2011. The film opened in all major releasing centers with average initial collections, but will surely pick up in the coming days. The film seems to be a family story mainly deals with the deep relationships, also tells a beautiful love story. Prithviraj looks quite beautiful in his look as a school teacher for the first time in his career and delivered an easy performance as Vinayachandran Mash. Samvritha Sunil has also got a strong character in Manikyakallu and her acting quite good in these type of roles. The movie is a bit lengthy of 2.45 hours and could have been edited. The film has 5 songs which are good to hear and picturised well, but few of them can be avoided to reduce the length of the total film. The cinematography of P.Sukumar is quite good that we can see a number of locations pleasant to our eyes. The script has all the ingredients for a simple film with no need for much logic. The supporting cast of the film is also good. Although many of the characters are rehash of old Sathyan films, we simply loved them because of their innocence in the heart. Jagathy Sreekumar's typical local villain character, Nedumudi Venu's School Headmaster etc are instances. In his second movie too, M.Mohanan excelled in the total outing.
This is the best film of Prithviraj in recent times. Manikyakallu is a simple straightforward film for true film lovers.
