Though he is more popularly known for his comedy acts, he has shown his versatility in films such as Achanurangatha Veedu, Adaminte Makan Abu, Gramophone and Perumazhakkalam. He has acted in more than 100 films till date. In the year 2011, he won the 58th National Film Award for best actor for his film 'Adaminte Makan Abu'. He has also won a Kerala State Film Award as the second best actor in 2005 for his role in Achanurangatha Veedu. In the current generation of films, there are very few films in which Salim Kumar has not been cast as a supporting actor. He has previously been linked with a professional drama in Arathi Theaters at Kochi. To make the audience laugh is not at all easy but Salim Kumar does it with so much ease and perfection and has his own inimitable style of presenting his jokes in the movies. The people of Kerala are proud of him for bringing such a big recognition for the state and its films. The latest news of Salim Kumar is that he will be sponsoring a Haj pilgrim this year. In his film Adaminte Makan Abu, Salim Kumar plays a Keralite Muslim who ardently wishes to go for Hajj, but is not able to go under some circumstances. Salim Kumar's professional career

Salim Kumar's debut film was Ishtamaanu Nooru Vattam in the year 1996, a film which came under the family entertainer genre and was directed by Sidhik Shameer. After this film, he has appeared in numerous other films as a supporting actor mostly in the role of a comedian. In the earlier years of his career, he was more focused on attaining a good position in the comedy industry of Mollywood films. It is only recently that he got the opportunity to explore more areas of the film industry and established himself as a actor of character with his roles in Achanurangatha Veedu in 2005 and Adaminte Makan Abu in 2011. Other than these films, he has also done serious roles in few earlier films such as Gramophone and Perumazhakkalam but these roles were not so prominent for him to receive the deserved recognition of a versatile actor. Salim Kumar has also been a part of a hip-hop song in an album called Coffee @ mg road in 2008. The song was well acknowledged by the audience. His latest film Adaminte Makan Abu has won him a lot of critical acclaim in the national level and he has been titled as Bharath Salim Kumar after winning the national award for best actor in the film. The film has been directed by debut director Salim Ahamed. Though this film has not been well noticed in its own Mollywood industry, it has received acknowledgement and rewarded adequately in the national level. At the state level, he was unfortunately neglected by the jury of the Kerala State Film Awards committee. The film has not even been released yet in Kerala. Salim Kumar very much deserves this award as he is one of the most talented actors of Malayalam films. His award proves that All that glitters (such as mega stars, super stars) are not gold. It was Salim Kumar's hard work and dedication to his job that he earned the national award. The humble man did not even take a single penny for acting in Adaminte Makan Abu because the director Salim Ahamed was a debutante. Salim Kumar loved his script thoroughly, so he decided to give his ultimate best to the character so that the director can have a strong start to his career. There would be very few actors who will think in this way for another person without expecting any financial returns. In most films, Muslims are portrayed are terrorists and the 'bad people' but Adaminte Makan Abu shows a completely different aspect to the people of this religion. They also have their own desires which when unfulfilled, shatters them.

Early life of Bharath Salim Kumar

Salim Kumar did his schooling at Govt LP school, North Paravoor and later at Govt Boys High School, North Paravoor. He has attained a graduate degree in B.A from Maharajas College, Ernakulam.
