The 59th Nehru Trophy Boat Race was held on 13 August 2011 & Jesus Boat Club (JBC) Kollam was declared as the winners of this boat race. But the latest news is that the results of this boat race will be reviewed in the light of a report submitted by an enquiry panel. Actually an official enquiry was ordered into the allegations levelled by other 3 boat clubs (Alappuzha Town Boat Club, the United Boat Club Kainakary & the Freedom Boat Club Alappuzha) who were in the final, that a statutory regulation was violated by the Jesus Boat Club (JBC) Kollam.
The above mentioned 3 boat clubs told that they were forced to pay an amount of Rs 2 lakhs each for uniform for their rowers. Also they were told that they would be disqualified from the boat races if the money was not paid & uniforms not worn. But the winners Jesus Boat Club (JBC) had not worn uniforms in the race. Based on this, an official enquiry was conducted by Venugopal(major irrigation executive engineer) & the report was submitted to A. Gopakumar(Revenue divisional officer).
Also note that these reports have confirmed that Jesus Boat Club had violated regulations of Nehru Boat Race. But now the report will be submitted to the District Collector & judicial panel, which in turn will submit their recommendations to the Nehru Trophy Boat Race Society. Only after that we will be able to know the final decision regarding this issue.
