The BlackBerry Bold 9790 is one of the latest smartphones in the BlackBerry Bold series from the Research In Motion. It has been launched in India now. The phone is also known as RIM BlackBerry Onyx III and RIM BlackBerry Bellagio.

Features and Specifications

The BlackBerry Bold 9790 features a 2.45 inch capacitative touch screen display, having a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels. The TFT screen can support 16 million colours. The candybar phone's dimensions measure 110 x 60 x 11.4 mm. The phone weighs only about 107 grams. The Bold 9790 has a powerful 1 GHz MG1 Marvel Tavor processor. The phone runs on BlackBerry 7 Operating System. The Bold 9790 has a RAM of 768 MB. It has a full QWERTY keyboard for easy typing and an Optical trackpad.

The Blackberry Bold 9790 comes with a 5 Megapixel camera powered with LED Flash. The main features of the camera include Continuous auto focus, Image stabilization, Face detection, Digital zoom and Geo-tagging. The VGA Camcorder can record HD videos of resolution upto 640x480 pixels. Although, there is no secondary camera in the phone. The media player can support MP3, WMA, WAV, eAAC+, FLAC, MP4, H.264 and H.263 formats.

The internal memory of the phone is 8 GB which can be further expanded to 32 GB. There is a microSD or microSDHC slot. The phone comes with a 3.5mm headset jack. It has integrated GPS with A-GPS system. The data access facilities include Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, 3G Connectivity and Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n. The phone supports 3G technologies such as HSDPA and HSUPA.

The other data access modes include micro USB 2.0 connector with features like Mass storage device, USB charging, Computer synchronisation and OTA synchronisation.

The Bold 9790 has built-in support for Augmented Reality and NFC (Near Field Communication). The phone has an enriched web browser with voice-activated search, so users can speak to begin search the web for information. The other built-in applications include BlackBerry Messenger, BlackBerry App World, Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo Messenger, Windows Live Messenger, Google Talk, BlackBerry Maps, Social Feeds and Documents to go. The common BlackBerry applications like BlackBerry Balance, BlackBerry Protect, Gist and BBM Integration are present in this phone also. The phone can be wirelessly connected to BlackBerry Playbook also.

The phone has been powered with a Li-Ion JM1 1230 mAh battery that can have a stand by life upto 432 hours and talk time upto 5.30 hours. The battery also gives a music playback time of 33 hours.

Cost and Availability

The Blackberry Bold 9790 will be available in the markets in Kerala from December 1st, 2011. The phone is priced at Rs. 27490.
