This article is all about the place in Palakkad district known as Kalpathy which is fan=mous for its festivals. The 'Kalapathy Radholsavam' or the Kalpathy Chariot Festival is a world famous colorful event held in kalpathy.

Attraction in Kalpathy- The Kalpathy Radholsavam


The district of Palakkad is famous for its festival. Kalpathy is also famous for its temples and festivals.The Chariot festival in Kalpathy is the most attracting among them. The festival is locally known as ‘Kalpathy Radholsavam'. This festival is celebrated in Kalpathy Viswanatha Temple and is famous among all the chariot festivals. Kalpathy Viswanatha Temple was one of the oldest temples in Malabar region. This temple was built in the reign of the great king of Malabar known as ‘Kombi Achan'. The Chariot festival of this temple is generally held in the months of November every year. The decorated Chariots are the main attraction in this festival.. This is a colorful festival in South India which attracts many devotees as well as the tourists.

The Chittur Kongan Pada is another festival celebrated in the temples of Kalpathy. This festival is for the memories of the great victory of the Nayar Soldiers of Chittur won over the Coimabatore Chola King known as “Rajadhiraja'. This festival is generally celebrated in the months of February. This also have a great tourist attraction. There are many other temples near Kalpathy Viswanatha Temple which also conducts many world famous festivals. Some of the temples are Nellikulangara Bhagavathy Temple, Kallakulagangara Temple etc. The former is famous for colourful festival known as ‘Nenmara Vallangi Vela' and the later is famous for ‘Chinnathur Pooram'.

How to Reach Kalpathy


Kalpathy is a short destination from the Palakkad town. It is just 3 kms from there. The nearest Railway Station is Palakkad Railway station or Olavakkod Railway station. There are always bus services available from Railway Station to Kalpathy. You can also hire a tourist taxi or an autorikshaw. The nearest airport available is Combatore airport which is 55 km away and the next is Karipur International Airport in Calicut, 130 kms away. The Nedumbasseri airport is 140 kms away from Kalpathy.
