Sree Chitra Tirunal College of Engineering was started in the year 1995 to offer quality technical education in the engineering field. The government-sponsored engineering college is located in Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala. The college has tie-ups with various research agencies to improve the quality in education, teaching and research.

Sree Chitra Tirunal College of Engineering is located in the capital city of Kerala. It is a government-sponsored college that aims at promoting education and research in the state. It also wants to accumulate relevant ideas and techniques which help to improve the facilities for the people of the state. With this purpose in focus, the engineering college has established the state-of-the-art facilities to mold and shape the future technocrats who can coin and deliver great ideas that shape the country. According to the edition of the magazine Outlook published in the year 2006, the college was in the list of top 100 engineering colleges of the country, and it stood in the 98th position in that list. According to another survey in the state recently, it is one of the top 3 engineering colleges of the state. History
The college was established in the year 1995 in Memoriam of Sree Chitra Tirunal Balarama Varma, the last ruler of erstwhile Travancore state. The governing council of the engineering college is chaired by the honorable minister for Transport. The council has other members drawn from other departments of the state government. As soon as it was established, it was affiliated to University of Kerala and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) for offering quality education in different engineering fields. For delivering quality education in different engineering streams, the college has established working partnerships with different research institutes and industries of the country. The list of institutes includes VSSC, DRDO, Technopark, STPIs, ER&DC, IISc, etc. Because of the steps taken in improving the quality of education, the number of students successfully participating in campus selections has gone up yearly.Accreditations and Certifications
Since its inception, it has made rapid strides in the field of education by grooming young men and women of the state through the processes of technical education, training and research. In recognition of these efforts, the engineering college has bestowed with NBA accreditation. Apart from this, it has also got ISO 9001: 2000 Certification for its excellence in technical education. Recently, the college has got the privilege of being one amongst the top six state colleges that have received the financial aid under the World Bank funded Technical Education Quality Improvement Program (TEQIP).Facilities
To cater to the requirements of the faculty and students, there is a centre for advanced computing. It is called Centre Computing Facility (CDF). This centre oversees the computational and networking services and provides the much needed technical advice for solving the technical problems of the users of the institute. For this purpose, the facility has a HP blade server and 48 workstations. These are connected over the switched Ethernet with the help of high-bandwidth and high-speed optical cables. This facility is also used for updating the college records and providing an online test framework for external agencies such as RRB, the Department of Post, etc. to conduct recruitment tests. The students of the institute can refer to the online journals by visiting the computational facility.
The engineering college has a fully functional library since 1996. This library meets the study, teaching and research requirements of the students, faculties and the other staff members of the college. For this purpose, the college library has a collection of about 30,000 books and journals. Mainly the books and journals are from engineering and interdisciplinary science fields. The students and faculties can use the reference books in the library for the in-house references.Academics
The engineering college conducts undergraduate courses in six engineering streams. These are listed below.
In the recent years, the college has obtained permission from AICTE to start three MTech programs. The first one is in Machine Design, the second one in Computer Science and the third one in Signal Processing. The first postgraduate program is given by the Mechanical Engineering department since 2009. The second postgraduate course is provided by the Computer Science department of the institute from 2010. The third postgraduate program is offered by the department of Electronics and Communication Engineering since 2011. The college also conducts community development programs for skill development and women empowerment.Faculties
The college has a team of faculties drawn from premier institutes of the country. These faculties are sent to premier research institutes of the country to help them improve their knowledge base. This enables them to remain updated when they take classes for the benefit of the student community. The faculties are recruited usually by LBS Centre for Science and Technology through a recruitment process. This recruitment process consists of a written test for proving the competence and a technical interview with the top-notch subject expert from outside the institute.Conclusion
