The senior representative of the Dubai government is probably to visit Kerala shortly to resolve the issues between the state government and Dubai-based Tecom, the sponsor for the venture. Eventually Dubai government is expected to taking initiative in a final bid to end standstill over the Smart City IT project in Kochi.

Confirming the reports in this regard, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan has recently reported that the Dubai authorities had informed their wish to visit Kerala to have a discussion and the government had agreed it. He added that they will visit Kerala soon, but no date had been fixed for the visit.

The Kochi smart city gives more hope now by the interfere of Dubai Government which was after result of mediatory discussions in between Tecom and the Dubai government done by M. A. Yusuf Ali, a leading Keralite industrialist in the gulf. He was appointed as a mediator by State government a couple of months ago in this long jam issue of Kochi smart city project.

Earlier stage, Smart City Kochi was visualizing as a joint venture project to build a knowledge industry center which is able to offer 10,000 job opportunities in the state Kerala.

Even though the government acquired about 240 acres of land for The Kochi smart city project and a blueprint agreement signed, the project has not gone forward as per planning. The project was delayed to kick off due to issues regarding the ownership of part of land, which was acquired for the project, between the two Tecom and State Government.

Dubai government warned the partner of the Kochi smart city project, Tecom against delaying the project in earlier stages. The issue raised with Tecom when LDF government rejected the demand of free-hold right over some portion of the land from Dubai partners. Then the project was delaying without any discussions between both of them.
Dubai Government interferes in the issue now because Dubai company was struggling to go ahead with the project against the repeatedly warnings from the state Government. The government had given repeated forewarnings to Tecom that the Government would not hesitate to search for another partner or go ahead with the project on its own, if the project was delayed due to their cooperation.
